Today, I went to meet a potential client at StarBucks all the way across town about designing his website. I was extremely excited because I really need the work. I sat for an hour. Turns out he was across the street, at the other StarBucks. FML

I agree, your life sucks (16661)
You totally deserved it (3368)

#1 - 11/06/2009 at 7:51pm - Plumppotato

I'm sure he didn't mention which one?

#19 - 11/06/2009 at 8:33pm - Ajjas013

im replying to the first post to be on top

#25 - 11/06/2009 at 8:49pm - whysoserious22

why didnt you just call him? o hai there :]

#27 - 11/06/2009 at 8:51pm - Rakayum

Any decent employer will laugh about that. If not, you don't want to work with him...trust me. Nothing says "crappy boss" like 0 sense of humor.

#43 - 11/06/2009 at 10:56pm - Reyo

The client said that having a cell phone is too stressful. I tried to include that piece of info, but the 300 character limit caught me.

#50 - 11/07/2009 at 12:16am - davbeck

Just a curious question: Who is tonight's moderator?

#56 - 11/07/2009 at 1:59am - mercyFML

Haha, that sucks

#2 - 11/06/2009 at 7:51pm - TRAX

There are too many Starbucks's :) Didn't you notice the other one before?

#3 - 11/06/2009 at 7:53pm - ChChCharlie

nope, hes an idiot. didnt call, waited an hour, these indicate someone who isnt gonna be bright enough to check peripheries.

#48 - 11/07/2009 at 12:01am - organisedchaos

You can't find the right store and you're the only person in the world to spell Starbucks in camel caps. I'm sure your potential client is impressed with your abilities and attention to detail. That was SarCasm.

#5 - 11/06/2009 at 7:55pm - perdix

YDI for not double-checking the location. There are probably 439279 Starbucks on that street alone.

#6 - 11/06/2009 at 7:55pm - Scheisse11

Damn that blows. YDI though for not getting a phone number and just not calling the guy after waiting 10-15 mins. Easily sorted out issue you just blew.

#7 - 11/06/2009 at 7:56pm - Bloodknight

Heh. That really sucks. There's two starbucks in my city each on opposing corners in a major intersection facing each other.

#8 - 11/06/2009 at 7:59pm - ohhoho

You just described the majority of all the major intersections in the US. I find it stupid and redundant.

#10 - 11/06/2009 at 8:03pm - Vaetrus

it's actually a really good marketing strategy in major cities. it has to do with the flow of traffic. use your brain.

#45 - 11/06/2009 at 11:18pm - ovrwhlmdbystupid

If my plan succeeds there will be a Starbucks next to the 7-11 on Mars by 2014.

#9 - 11/06/2009 at 8:02pm - SaintJimmy

Oh no bitch we the people of Dunkin Donuts are gettin in space first (smacks w/ a french curler)

#40 - 11/06/2009 at 10:15pm - CJ090

A Starbucks across from a Starbucks?! It must be the end of the world.

#11 - 11/06/2009 at 8:06pm - Lewis Black

At a shopping center near a local university, we have two separate Starbucks in the same center... separated by only part of the parking lot (yes, you can see one from the other and there isn't even a street between them).

#17 - 11/06/2009 at 8:19pm - FerrariCake

I loved that joke, ROFL!

#38 - 11/06/2009 at 10:01pm - OMGoriginality

HAHAHA! I knew I wasn't the only person who thought of Lewis Black :D

#46 - 11/06/2009 at 11:19pm - Serafie

Thank you. I believe this is in Houston, TX. Not Nevada.

#58 - 11/07/2009 at 2:17am - JohnnyAppleseed

Our mall has three all in the same corner. One in the foodcourt, one in the Bookstore, and one in the Safeway. Stand at the Foodcourt one and you can see the other two.

#59 - 11/07/2009 at 2:34am - jchansfan

Run away! It's the Giant gingerbreadman! Get a cookie if you know what I'm refering to :)

#60 - 11/07/2009 at 4:32am - Kronic_Kitten

Well done. Glad someone else instantly thought of that.

#63 - 11/07/2009 at 10:38am - Revelus

Johnny Appleseed is correct. I drove by it today and took this picture of the double StarBucks (ha-ha). Here it is. http://i35.tinypic.com/fokdc2.jpg

#67 - 11/07/2009 at 1:26pm - perdix

Wow, those are actually nice Starbuckses... Starb... Starbuck... Starbuckii?

#72 - 11/07/2009 at 5:45pm - lifeinhd

hehehe. it is nice! thanks :) that's retarded. they are so close together! :D no clue that maybe client was at the other? :P

#78 - 11/07/2009 at 9:58pm - omghehehe

wow dude that sucks hard

#12 - 11/06/2009 at 8:07pm - hXcsoccerplaya

you suck for not specifying an address.

#13 - 11/06/2009 at 8:12pm - saculmot

Why didn't one of you call the other? You are either both morons, or one of you doesn't have a cell phone. You: "Hey, I'm at Starbucks... where are you?" Client: "I'm at Starbucks too." You: "Oh, you must be at the other one." Problem solved. I'm pretty sure you both have cell phones. Even people in third world countries have cell phones now.

#68 - 11/07/2009 at 4:50pm - sandsjh

YDI for meeting at Starbucks. Support the locals! [/hippieargument]

#16 - 11/06/2009 at 8:17pm - gambol

heh.. Not a Star Fucker, eh? Well, good on you :]

#34 - 11/06/2009 at 9:42pm - mercyFML

Screw the locals. Starbucks is popular because people like it. For instance, I absolutely abhor coffee, but I like a nice mocha frappucino. Find me a local coffee shop that can make me a decent frappucino and I'll patronize it. I haven't found a comparable one yet.

#61 - 11/07/2009 at 5:39am - RyeBreadBoy

Oh, wow, you definately deserved it. Didn't you think to yourself for one second, "Hmm, maybe I should: A) Ask someone in the Starbucks I'm in currently for (Insert name here) B) Call the client or C) Recheck the address."? Of course not, 'cause if you had, you wouldn't have waited FOR AN HOUR.

#18 - 11/06/2009 at 8:26pm - Hell_Kaht

YDI for capitalization. Its one word, Starbucks not StarBucks.

#20 - 11/06/2009 at 8:33pm - Miscellania

YDI. Why did you not check the other starbucks?

#21 - 11/06/2009 at 8:35pm - HELLOjealousy

He probably was meeting another person to do the designs. One who wasn`t stupid enough sit in a starbucks for an hour without realizing no one showed up.

#22 - 11/06/2009 at 8:44pm - DoubleA329

Isn't one starbucks per block enough? Fuck starbucks and their 3 dollar lattes!

#23 - 11/06/2009 at 8:45pm - wrwrestler

The solution is simple - sue Starbucks. :P

#24 - 11/06/2009 at 8:45pm - MamaC

Seriously, it's Starbucks not StarBucks. Dumbass. Who would want to meet with someone who can't even capitilize Starbucks correctly?

#26 - 11/06/2009 at 8:50pm - luckyducky123

It's an honest mistake, but YDI anyway (you should've known the specifics). Of course, you didn't say whether you lost the client or not. If not, why the hell is this on FML?

#28 - 11/06/2009 at 9:01pm - blastvortex

I think he meant the Starbucks across the street from his house, which was much nearer. Otherwise, there wasn't much point in writing that he drove all the way across town.

#29 - 11/06/2009 at 9:03pm - hjordis

No, he meant what he said. There were 2 Starbucks across the street from each other. Likely kitty-corner at a major intersection. Such is the American Way. *eyeroll*

#33 - 11/06/2009 at 9:27pm - Lonely_Lez

Actually, I know the place in Houston that Lewis Black referred to in his book. My mom and I went to his book-signing a few blocks from that spot. While we were standing in line, we heard the story of how it happened. The guy who owned the first one saw a spot open up in the strip center across the street. (He really wanted to build in that center in the first place.) He built the second with the intention of closing the first when the new one was up and running. After the second was finished he noticed that both continued to do great business so he kept them both open.

#39 - 11/06/2009 at 10:02pm - perdix

26th!

#30 - 11/06/2009 at 9:11pm - mysuckishlife

fail.

#32 - 11/06/2009 at 9:24pm - Jordie210

Epic fail.

#75 - 11/07/2009 at 6:42pm - greenltrn2003

That sux

#31 - 11/06/2009 at 9:24pm - Biatche

Location fail. YDI for not asking what Starbucks it was.

#35 - 11/06/2009 at 9:49pm - Harrywhat

Im sorry but you had this coming to you because you didnt ask your client for his cell phone number. You always, always, bring your cell just in case something happens. If neither you or your client had a cell phone, try to find some way to get a hold of each other e.g. borrow someones else phone. Seriously, that was quite a idiotic and stupid move you made, and in the end you paid for your own stupidity.

#36 - 11/06/2009 at 9:57pm - frostie

#70 - 11/07/2009 at 4:54pm - sandsjh

should've gone to starbucks, and not StArBuCkS

#37 - 11/06/2009 at 9:58pm - cakeeeee

Everyone knows ur suppose to give a courtesy call after 15min right? hmmm, obviously not. YDI for not thinking of that :/ next time, buddy :)

#41 - 11/06/2009 at 10:30pm - omghehehe

He probably got confused because he was at Starbucks while you were at StarBucks, a completely unrelated banking organization.

#42 - 11/06/2009 at 10:31pm - devendra

lol that's a good one :D

#44 - 11/06/2009 at 11:14pm - scarlett361

it's called a cell phone you can talk over great distances without ever leaving where your at.

#49 - 11/07/2009 at 12:12am - majestydivine

there can never be too much starbucks.. when i walked around in downtown vancouver, there was about 10 of them in a block

#51 - 11/07/2009 at 12:53am - epikz

YDI for not confirming which starbucks.

#52 - 11/07/2009 at 1:00am - DynamicDave

should have called. and learned how to capitalize properly.

#53 - 11/07/2009 at 1:13am - RNCftw

You don't have perfect capitalization either my friend.

#65 - 11/07/2009 at 11:30am - ugh_a_lug

StarBucks are way too out of control, and WTF is with them also? I see it everywhere, there are 2 of them that I know of in my area, 4 damn Starf**ks in the same zip code! What's with this asswards logic?

#54 - 11/07/2009 at 1:33am - Mortanious

Must just be your zip code. There's only one in mine, and it's in a Meijer. Thus, I don't frequent it because there's no drive-thru.

#62 - 11/07/2009 at 5:42am - RyeBreadBoy

I think there should be only place to buy coffee in each city. Because otherwise I have to listen to all these idiots complaining about multiple locations. Do you people complain about how there are parking spaces every 10 ft?

#55 - 11/07/2009 at 1:53am - I_am_stupid_also

This is a Lewis Black joke. You fail.

#57 - 11/07/2009 at 2:13am - capthavoc123

See, that's the stupid thing. There are Starbucks everywhere. You only need one on a street. But I still feel sorry for you, but I guess it's a YDI becasue you should have said which one.

#64 - 11/07/2009 at 11:29am - tangerine_12

Ok, did you lose the client? And, did you go over to the other Starbucks eventually? How exactly did you find out that the client was there? If you did go over there and the client was there, what's wrong? I mean yeah, it sucks to wait that long, but its not fml (unless you lost the client).

#66 - 11/07/2009 at 11:36am - ugh_a_lug

http://www.fmylife.com/work/6185222#c_4360677 OP: “The client said that having a cell phone is too stressful.”

#69 - 11/07/2009 at 4:52pm - sandsjh

lmao lewis black has an account here. why am i not surprised?

#73 - 11/07/2009 at 6:02pm - IMaHATER

omg were you at the end of the universe???

#74 - 11/07/2009 at 6:15pm - cRothabeast

My self-diagnosed OCD forces me to inform you that it is Starbucks, not StarBucks; and that an urge to kill you is developing slowly but steadily. Anyways, FYL. Too many Starbucks all around.

#76 - 11/07/2009 at 8:30pm - wakawakawaka

So im guessing youre the first business person that DOESNT have a cell phone? YDI

#77 - 11/07/2009 at 9:37pm - EpicJohn

yeah where i am there are 3 starbucks on 1 block 1 on the street side, 1 on the opposite end of the block, 1 in a Vons They r taking over the world

#79 - 11/08/2009 at 1:04am - stone_light

hmmm i wonder how he found out that the was at the other starbucks first half hour "he must be late..." next half hour ".... dang, really late...." after the hour is up, "maybe i should CALL him..." OR employer calls: "where are you i've been waiting an hour?" #77 way to not think for 1 second

#80 - 11/08/2009 at 1:08am - stone_light

It's obviously part of a conspiracy to keep you from getting the job and therefore having to work at Starbucks to support yourself.

#81 - 11/08/2009 at 4:02am - Ninjaface

1. Starbucks is crap. 2. Your a douche, wouldnt you check both? 3. Your employer is ALSO a douche. 4. Americans...

#82 - 11/08/2009 at 5:54am - fuckyoufuckers

That sucks. Damn Starbucks on every corner.

#83 - 11/08/2009 at 5:15pm - whatthe_efff

you are silly why wouldnt you call him when you saw he was 15min or so late ?

#84 - 11/09/2009 at 9:08pm - one2gun

This happened to me actually with a friend. He loves Starbucks, I don't care for it much. We were going to meet up there before heading to the mall, and I waited about 30 minutes before thinking I should check the other Starbucks across the street. The thing is, these were built at about the same time too. One is a full Starbucks attached to a Target, but I remember that was being built at the same time the other one was being built at another shopping center across the street. I don't get it, the same went for Pizza hut. There was a small Pizza hut in the target, still is, along with another same sized one literally in the same parking lot. Weird how this all works.
