FMyLife - Get the guts to spill the beans
Today, I was working at Tim Hortons. A lady was in line, and she couldnt make up her mind. 20 minutes later she finally decided to get something, and she reached in her pocket. I was hoping it was a tip, but she gave me a coupon for a haircut. FML
Well, if she gave it to you, then you get a haircut. Yay for you! Not an FML.
Exactly, chucking this into the "Nobody cares" category
well maybe he has short hair and doesnt want to grow it out? lucky...i live in texas we have no more tim hortons, when i was in new york i ate there everyday :(
This is an FML worthy incident? Quit yer whining and use the coupon.
YDI for expecting a tip in the first place. Its not even implied that you spent a long time helping her decide on that something.
maybe she's trying to tell you your hair looks like bum and you need a better haircut... you should be thankful :)
YDI for expecting a tip. You work at TIM HORTONS! It's a coffee joint, not a restaurant.
You've never seen the Tip Jar at Starbucks if you think tips are only for at restaurants.
Yeah Starbucks has a tip jar, but their employees receive minimum wage. At restaurants the waitresses receive below minimum wage and the difference comes from tips. Tips jars at coffee shops are just selfish kids wanting to get paid for work they are already getting paid for.
my daughter used to work at Timmies, she made quite a bit in tips
Yeah there are tips given at some coffee shops but not Tim Horton's
LOL what's with the denial? Tips exist at Tim Horton's. Done.
What's up with north americans and their sense of entitlement?
...If you knew anything about Tim Hortons then you'd know it's common for people to leave their change behind. The "tip" is usually miniscule if they get one at all. If you knew anything about the food service industry in North America, you'd know waiters/waitresses often have a lower minimum wage than some part time high school kid starting their first day of work at Wal Mart... so the sence of entitlement comes from the need to ummmm feed their kids. Not this d-bag, mind you... but before painting an entire group of people with the same brush, why don't you use your head for a second
According to the US Department of Labor, an employer is legally required to pay compensation if the hourly wage and the tips don't add up to the minimum wage. http://www.dol.gov/wb/faq26.htm
wow douchebag, fuck off
You should have tossed off and gave her a double cream filling...
at least you got something from her
What you said: "..." What you should've said: "Yeah, becasue I want a haircut from someone that takes 20 minutes to decide which donut she wants with her coffee!"
You should have looked her straight in the eyes, looked up to her hair and said "It's okay, I think you'll need it. But make sure the hairdresser chooses the cut, because something tells me you aren't the greatest at making decisions."
You score an FML for working in Tim Hortons...
I've heard that Canadians are exceptionally polite. Maybe she was trying to subtly tell you that she found a hair on her donut. Next time she comes in and tell her she's won a free cream-filled donut, and then go in the back and make her a "special" one. Include a complimentary hair of a different sort.
Oh my God I laughed so hard just then, memories of Van Wilder are coming back. That comment was possibly the funniest thing I've seen this month.
xD It was probably her way of saying "your hair is too long and unkept, here's a coupon for a haircut in case your broke Tim Horton's employee ass can't afford one".
Yes, and while you are back there, can you make me a special raspberry-jelly filled one?
FarSide, all out of raspberry jelly, maybe a Strawberry Shortcake?
You're not even supposed to accept tips at Timmy's you jackass.
You're also not supposed to leave change lying around on the counter, and if you put it in the drawer, then it will be over when they count it down. What else are you gonna do? When I was a barista we weren't supposed to accept tips, but we always did. If someone wants to give, why not let them? We weren't asking for it, and the customers knew it wasn't required. It was mostly just people who didn't want their change anyway.
Who says you can't accept tips? I work there too and I have a special cup for customers to drop change in, if they want. The managers make one for everyone there. Its behind the register and its not necessary at all. Its not usually much more than small change, but it adds up and I can usually by lunch for myself with it, maybe more a few more lunches that week if I'm lucky. And you know what, its a lot harder work than most think. Dealing with people is difficult. And I do a lot more work than many of my friends at their part time jobs.
Since when? Are you maybe thinking of McDonald's?
My parents love Tim Hortons coffee! Anyways, at least you get a discount on a haircut.
Seriously, why do these dumbass ones continually go through.
isn't it your...I dunno...JOB to help customers? and who cares if she didn't leave a tip? you don't tip employees who make minimum wage or more (ok you can of course but why do you deserve the extra money?)
Are you stupid? Not all Tim Hortons have that rule.
I'd be fucking ecstatic if someone left a coupon for a haircut as a tip. It's worth way more than a buck, and my hair is going to reach my ass soon if I don't do something about it. xD
ahahahah that's really funny
FYL for not getting a recipe for sweet-and-sour chicken, because that's infinitely more useful than a haircut for a coffeehouse worker.
bout right
What is Tim Horton's?
It's the Canadian version of Dunkin Donuts basically. The coffee is lackluster.
Lackluster? It's better than the bitter swill at Starbucks, frankly. Although my preference is Second Cup.
I don't even like coffee and I know the coffee at Timmy's is burnt dirt.
They have Tim Hortons in Ohio too because we're so close to the border. Good donuts =)
Was it a FREE haircut? Because that haircut is probably worth more than whatever you would have gotten as a tip. I thought my nice small-town hairdresser priced haircuts normally (about $30 for a shampoo, cut and blow-dry, including tip), but then I went away to school only to discover that in most of the country they're actually about twice that. For a freakin haircut.
YDI for working at tim hortons. talk about annoying customers, i work in a restaraunt for crying out loud. theres really nice people out there and then theres the assholes, and its all a part of life. as for the haircut coupon? it`s better than nothing. i go to tim hortons twice a day, for breakfast before work and then again for lunch between my two jobs. never in my life have i left them a tip, and i never will. you dont need money for pouring some coffee into a cup and grabbin a donut off the shelf. thats what i pay the money for. do you tip the guy at mcdonalds too?
and you dont need money for bringing peoples food to their tables you ass. Tim hortons workers deserve just as much to be tipped as waiters do, so shut the fuck up
No. First of all, you don't have to tip baristas, it's just a nice gesture. When I am especially helpful and accomodating people are more than happy to put their spare change from the transaction into a jar. A barista is different from a fastfood worker, we make specialized drinks that require at least some skill and knowledge, to properly steam the milk and such. You tip bartenders, who also may do little more than fill a mug with beer. We put a tip jar out because people honestly wanted to tip us. Don't tip if you don't want to. But when I heat someone's bakery in the microwave for them, or help a woman on a diet figure out the calories in her drink, they are usually more than happy to.
I thought tim hortons employees weren't allowed to accept tips anyway
She DID give you a tip...she was hinting that you need a haircut. Oh, me.
please be more concise next time. all you needed to write was, "Today I was working at Tim Horton's. FML."
YDI because your a whiner, you don't even need a tip. You pour coffee for gods sake! I hate when people who do counter work like pouring coffee or putting donuts into a bag. Ugh I hate their stupid tip cups.
Hahahaha, reminds me of that song 'GET A HAIRCUT, AND GET A REAL JOB!!!!'
You work at Timmy's. You have every ounce of my sympathy. The haircut thing's actually kinda cool, though. If a little suspicious.
Will Most Boys while in the Teenage life have long & sexy hair & they always get pissed when someone talks about it in a negative way or make fun of it. I've also found out that allot of Muslims and Arabs hate long hair & always stay on Default than special. It IS an FML because after waiting so long for her, she basically gave him an advice to cut something precious of his just because she's "N/A".
